AI Agent Status
by Adx.cool
Overview
Live Claude Code and Codex status on your Stream Deck — working, ready, blocked on you, failed. Nothing to install: it reads the session files your agents already write. Sends nothing anywhere.
You gave Claude Code a long job and went to make coffee. Is it still running? Did it finish four minutes ago? Is it sitting on a permission prompt you never saw? The only way to know is to go and look — and every look costs you the thing you left the terminal to do.
AI Agent Status puts the answer on a key.
── BEFORE YOU BUY ──
Nothing to install. This plugin reads the session files Claude Code and Codex already write on your machine. No API key, no account, no CLI, no configuration beyond which agent a key watches.
ONE LIMITATION, STATED UP FRONT — in this version, 'Needs you' and 'Failed' work on CODEX ONLY.
Claude Code writes nothing to disk while a permission prompt is waiting for you, so no plugin can see that moment from outside. On Claude Code this version shows Working, Ready and Offline. A 'Needs You' key scoped to Claude Code will stay dark — scope it to Codex, or to 'most urgent', and it works today.
Full five-state support for Claude Code needs a small companion plugin that runs inside it. That is planned for v2 and will be free. If Claude Code is the only agent you use and 'Needs you' is the reason you are here, wait for v2 — we would rather you knew now.
── WHAT IT DOES ──
THREE KEYS • Agent Status — working, ready, blocked on you, failed, offline. One word, one colour, one glyph • Needs You — near-black while things are fine, saturated the moment an agent is blocked. Built for the corner of your eye • Activity — how long the current state has held. 'Working' says little; 'working for 11:04' says the run is long
ONE KEY, EITHER AGENT • Scope a key to Claude Code, to Codex, or to whichever session needs you first • Several terminals at once are aggregated — blocked beats busy beats idle, so a key never hides the session that matters • On a Stream Deck+, rotate the dial to switch agent without opening the inspector
── BUILT TO DROP IN ──
• Nothing leaves your machine. This plugin opens no connection and holds no token • Nothing is written either — it never edits your Claude Code or Codex configuration, or anything else. It only ever reads • Colour never carries a state alone: every tile pairs it with a glyph and the word, so the deck stays readable if you do not see red and green apart • Dark and light themes, on keys and on the dial LCD • No agent running? The keys read Offline. Nothing breaks, nothing shouts
It reads a lifecycle state, a timestamp and an opaque session id — never your prompts, responses or transcripts, which it does not parse.
Initial release.
• Agent Status, Needs You and Activity — each on a key or a Stream Deck+ dial • Nothing to install: reads the session files Claude Code and Codex already write • Claude Code and Codex, scoped per key or aggregated by urgency • Dark and light themes • No network, no token, no writes of any kind
Known limitation: 'Needs you' and 'Failed' are Codex-only in this version. Claude Code does not write a pending permission prompt to disk, so it cannot be read from outside. Full support lands in v2 via a free companion plugin.
