Australian Fire Danger Rating
by Cath Ellis
Overview
As summer approaches in Australia, put the official AFDRS fire danger rating and Total Fire Ban status directly on your keys. Pick a state and district for Victoria, NSW, the ACT, Western Australia, or South Australia, and get the exact same colours and wording you'd see on a roadside sign. No account, no login, no API key: every reading comes straight from that state's own public fire agency feed.
Three key actions, pick any or all:
Fire Danger Rating — fills the whole key with the official colour: Moderate, High, Extreme, or Catastrophic.
Total Fire Ban — a plain yes or no for your district, kept separate from the rating since a ban doesn't always track the colour.
4-Day Outlook — the next four days as a stack of colour chips, so you can see trouble coming.
Double-press the Rating or Fire Ban key to swap it to the forecast, and again to bring it back. On a Stream Deck+ dial, rotate through all three views on a single screen — no need to dedicate three separate slots.
Outside the fire danger period, a district honestly displays "No Rating". If a source's Total Fire Ban text can't be parsed with confidence, the key says so in amber rather than guessing "no ban" — the one wrong answer here with real consequences. A subtle dot indicator appears if a forecast hasn't refreshed in a while.
Important:
This plugin reads public RSS feeds to display daily outlooks. In the event of an active fire or emergency, always check directly with your local official sources, apps, and emergency broadcasters for real-time information.
Requirements:
macOS 12 or later, Stream Deck 6.9 or later. Covers Victoria (CFA), NSW (RFS), ACT (ESA), Western Australia (DFES), and South Australia (CFS). Queensland, Tasmania, and the NT don't yet have a public feed this plugin can reach.

First release
Fire Danger Rating, Total Fire Ban and 4 Day Outlook actions, each configurable per key by state and district
Covers Victoria (CFA), NSW (RFS), ACT (ESA), Western Australia (DFES) and South Australia (CFS)
Official AFDRS colours and wording throughout
Never guesses: an unparseable Total Fire Ban renders as a distinct "can't confirm" state, never a false "no"; an empty off-season feed renders as "no forecast published", never a rating
A quiet stale-data marker when a forecast hasn't refreshed in over three hours
Double-press the Rating or Fire Ban key to swap it to the 4-day forecast, double-press again to bring it back
Stream Deck+ dial support: rotate through rating, fire ban and outlook on one dial; press or touch opens the district's page and refreshes
Action and category icons monochrome white on transparent, per Elgato's icon guidelines
