Codex Approver
by Mlifell
Overview
Codex Approver puts OpenAI Codex's permission prompts on your Stream Deck.
When Codex wants to run a command or edit a file, your keys light up with the tool name — tap to Allow, Always-allow, or Deny without leaving what you're doing. The rest of the time the keys stay dark, so they never get in your way.
FOUR KEYS
• Allow — approve the pending request once.
• Always Allow — approve and stop asking for that kind of request for the rest of the current Codex session (ephemeral; it never edits your config).
• Deny — reject the pending request.
• Codex Status — a live dot you can read across the room: working, needs approval, finished, or idle.
WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT
• Zero busywork — keys glow only when Codex actually needs you.
• Stay in flow — answer prompts from the deck instead of hunting for the terminal window.
• Self-installing — no scripts to wire up by hand. If you remove the plugin, Codex simply falls back to its normal terminal prompt.
• Private by design — decisions are passed locally; nothing leaves your machine.
REQUIREMENTS
• macOS, Stream Deck 6.9 or newer.
• OpenAI Codex with hooks enabled and trusted (run /hooks once in Codex to trust them).
• Currently driven through the Codex CLI. The Codex desktop app does not yet run external lifecycle hooks (a known OpenAI issue), so use the CLI for now — everything else works unchanged once that's fixed.
Unofficial. Not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. "Codex" is a trademark of OpenAI.
Ring when Codex needs you. The Codex Status key can now play a short tone the moment Codex flips to “Needs approval,” so you don't have to keep an eye on the deck. Open the key's settings to turn the ring on or off, pick a tone (Chime, Ping, or Ring), and preview it with Test — all three tones are synthesized from scratch and bundled with the plugin, so nothing streams or phones home.
