GarageBand Jam Deck

Control GarageBand 10.4.14 from your Stream Deck: 89 commands on 7 category keys, plus 12 dials that scrub the playhead, browse patches and tracks, and ride the master volume, tempo, zoom and pan. 10 of the 12 dials read their value back from GarageBand onto the touch strip. Every command has its own key face with its name across the top, so the deck shows what each key does.

SEVEN CATEGORY KEYS, THE WHOLE COMMAND SET Transport, Modes, Tracks, Edit, Notes, View and Project. On the Stream Deck, Stream Deck XL and Stream Deck + XL the profile's first page is a home page with one key per category: press one and its page of commands opens, and the Home key at the top left brings you back. Each category key picks its command in the property inspector, and every command key is remappable and Multi Action ready.

GARAGEBAND'S OWN SHORTCUTS Each key sends the keyboard shortcut GarageBand itself listens for, so there is nothing to bind. Keys send only while GarageBand is in front; otherwise nothing is sent and the key shows an alert. A key with no modifier is held back while a text field has keyboard focus, so a bare letter is not typed into the Note Pad.

TWELVE DIALS 12 dials for the Stream Deck + and Stream Deck + XL:

Playhead Scrub moves a bar per click. Press plays or stops. The strip shows the bar and beat.

Patch Browse steps to the next or previous patch. Press shows the Library. The strip shows the patch name.

Master Volume rides the master slider. Press resets it. The strip shows its level.

Zoom zooms the tracks area. Press turns Catch Playhead on or off.

Track Browse selects the next or previous track. Press solos it. The strip shows its name.

Tempo moves one BPM per click. Press shows the tempo track. The strip shows the tempo.

Track Volume and Track Pan work the selected track's own slider and knob. Press mutes or centers it.

Smart Controls Macro turns the first Smart Controls knob. Press shows Smart Controls.

Cycle Range slides the cycle range by its own length. Press turns cycle on or off.

Loop Browser Scroll steps the list with the Loop Browser open, and Note Transpose moves the selected notes a semitone. Press previews the loop or quantizes. These two send without reading back. The Stream Deck + XL profile seats 6 of them and the Stream Deck + profile seats 4; the other 6 are in the actions list, ready to place.

SIX BUNDLED PROFILES Stream Deck (12 pages), Stream Deck + (12 pages), Stream Deck + XL (8 pages), Stream Deck XL (8 pages), Stream Deck Mini (23 pages) and Stream Deck Neo (15 pages): 6 bundled profiles, all 89 commands in every one. The Neo and Mini chain their pages with Next and Previous keys instead of a home page, and the Stream Deck + pages by swiping its touch strip. Easy Link sits on the first page of all six.

EASY LINK, BUILT IN Nothing else to install. Hold the Easy Link key about a second with GarageBand in front and the deck binds GarageBand to this plugin's profile, which switches in whenever GarageBand takes focus and hands your previous profile back when you leave. A short press does nothing, so a stray tap never relinks. It plays 3 bundled sounds, one when a link locks on, one when a hold cannot lock and one when a link is removed, and any of them can be set to No sound.

SETUP Click OK when macOS asks to let Elgato Stream Deck control System Events. Accessibility has no prompt: add Elgato Stream Deck under System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility, then quit and reopen the Stream Deck app. The keys and the dials both need it.
