Iris

Overview

Iris puts your screenshots and screen recordings on your Stream Deck. Every capture you make has a key that says what it does, and one key turns the whole deck into a capture studio.

THE STUDIO, FROM ONE KEY — Tap the Iris key and your deck becomes the Studio: area, window, screen, record, text, a timer and where it all goes. When you are done, one tap gives you your keys back. Iris takes one key of your layout and borrows the rest only while you need them.

A KEY FOR EACH CAPTURE — Add the Capture action as often as you like and give each key its own job: "the window in front, no shadow, to the clipboard", "an area after three seconds, to a folder", "ten seconds of a window with clicks shown, then QuickTime". Start from a preset or set it up yourself. Each key draws what it captures, where it goes and what is special about it.

PICTURES — An area you draw, a window you click, the window in front without a click, the whole screen, one display or a fixed region. With or without the window shadow and the pointer, as PNG, JPEG, HEIC or PDF.

RECORDINGS — Of an area, a window, the screen or one display. Until you tap again, or for 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. With the microphone and with clicks shown if you want them. The key is the stop button while it records, with the time running round it.

TEXT OUT OF ANYTHING — Draw round a picture, a video frame, a PDF or an app that will not let you select, and the words are on the clipboard. The key tells you how many. Read on your Mac, never sent anywhere.

A TIMER YOU CAN SEE — Three, five or ten seconds, counting down on the keys.

WHERE IT GOES — The clipboard, a folder of your choice, or both. Name files with the date, the time, the app and a counter. Then open the capture in Preview or QuickTime, in an app of your choice, or show it in Finder.

AFTER A CAPTURE — In the Studio the capture is shown across four keys, with Copy, Markup, Finder, Again, Copy text and Bin beside it.

THE LAST CAPTURE — A key with a picture of the last capture. Tap to open it, hold to show it in Finder.

ON THE STREAM DECK NEO — The Infobar shows what is being captured, the time left of a recording, and the last capture.

NOTHING ELSE TO INSTALL — Iris uses macOS's own screen capture and Apple's own text recognition. No account, no network.

Not sure yet? Iris Lite is free: Capture keys for pictures and the Last capture key.

macOS 13 or newer, with the Stream Deck app 7.6 or newer. Stream Deck needs Screen Recording permission, which macOS asks for once; the microphone only if a key records it. The Studio comes with a profile for every Stream Deck model. The Infobar action needs a Stream Deck Neo.
