Notepad++ Live Deck

Notepad++ Live Deck puts Notepad++ on your Stream Deck: 97 commands on labeled keys, each sent to Notepad++ as its own menu command by window message rather than a typed shortcut, and ten dials for the editor itself. Turn a dial to zoom, scroll, move the caret, grow a selection, switch tabs or step through bookmarks, and the touch strip reads the editor back: zoom level, caret line, tab, undo depth.

HOW IT WORKS

Every key talks to Notepad++ directly. Nothing is typed, so a key never lands in another window, and Notepad++ does not have to be the active window: open and visible is enough. If Notepad++ is not running, the key alerts instead of sending anything. 43 of the 97 commands have no default shortcut in Notepad++ at all (Word Wrap, Show All Characters, Duplicate Line, the encodings) and work the same way as the rest.

TEN DIALS THAT READ NOTEPAD++

Zoom, scroll, caret and tab jumps are single absolute messages, so a spin never overshoots. The touch strip shows the live reading under each dial with a position bar, and says so when Notepad++ is closed.

- Caret Shuttle: move the caret, slow by character, faster by word, a flick by line. Press to paste.

- Selection: grow the selection out from the caret with the same acceleration. Press to copy, hold to cut.

- Zoom: set the editor zoom level. Press to restore 100 percent.

- Go To Line: move the caret through the file by line. Press to scroll back to the caret.

- Scroll: scroll the view without moving the caret. Press to jump back to the caret.

- Tab: move between open tabs. Press to send the tab to the other view.

- Language: preview a syntax language, press to apply. Turning changes nothing until you press.

- Undo Scrub: turn back to undo, forward to redo, rate limited. Press to save.

- Encoding and EOL: preview an encoding or line ending, press to apply. Only reinterpreting encodings are offered.

- Bookmarks: step through the bookmarks in the file. Press to toggle one on the current line.

A PROFILE FOR EVERY STREAM DECK

- Stream Deck, Stream Deck XL and Stream Deck + XL: a hub page of category keys filled out with direct shortcut keys, one page per category, Home on every page. The Stream Deck + XL adds six dials on every page: Caret Shuttle, Selection, Zoom, Go To Line, Scroll, Tab.

- Stream Deck +: Easy Link, seven starter keys (Save, Save All, Undo, Redo, Find, Replace, Find in Files) and four dials: Caret Shuttle, Selection, Zoom, Go To Line.

- Stream Deck Mini and Stream Deck Neo: two pages of starter keys.

Any dial drags onto any dial slot, and any key takes any of the 97 commands from the Command dropdown; a Custom Hotkey overrides it.

EASY LINK, BUILT IN

The Easy Link module is built in, nothing else to install. Hold the key about a second while Notepad++ is in front to bind it to this plugin's profile. The profile switches in whenever Notepad++ takes focus: leave it and your previous profile returns. Easy Link rides on every bundled profile.

SOUNDS

Any key can play one of 30 bundled clips when pressed, silent by default, or a recording made with our free Sound Sampler plugin.

SUPPORTED HARDWARE AND REQUIREMENTS

Stream Deck, Stream Deck Mini, Stream Deck XL, Stream Deck +, Stream Deck Neo and Stream Deck + XL; the dials need a Stream Deck + or Stream Deck + XL. Windows 10 or later, Stream Deck software 6.9 or newer, Notepad++ 8.9.8 (tested on 8.9.8.1). With the editor split into two views, the dials and the editor-level keys wait until you return to one view.
