You need a free Alpaca account. Prices come from Alpaca (alpaca.markets): make a free account (a paper trading account is enough), generate an API key, and paste the Key ID and Secret Key into the widget's settings. They stay on your PC and are only sent to Alpaca.

Made for keeping an eye on your stocks, not for day trading. Free Alpaca accounts get real-time stock prices from a single exchange (IEX), so a price can differ by a few cents from your broker and quieter stocks may go a while between trades.

When prices update

• Stocks: live from 9:30 AM to 4 PM ET on market days, with lighter trading from about 8 AM and until 5 PM ET

• Coins: live around the clock, every day

• Open, day range and previous close refresh every minute; the 52-week range once a day

• Nights, weekends and market holidays: the last price stays on screen, with the time of the last trade
