Philips Hue Control
by WDX Global
Overview
Philips Hue Control brings your Hue lights, rooms, and Hue Play HDMI Sync Box to Stream Deck - built entirely on Philips' own local CLIP v2 Bridge API and the Sync Box's own local API. There's no Hue cloud account, no relay server, and no third-party API involved; every request goes straight from your computer to your Bridge or Sync Box over your local network, authenticated with keys you generate yourself via each device's own physical pairing button.
What's included
Light Toggle (Keypad key and Stream Deck+ dial) - pick any room or individual light. Shows its live on/off state; the key's background is colour-matched to what the light is actually showing - its real colour for full-colour/gradient lights, an approximate warm/cool swatch for colour-temperature-only bulbs, or a fixed amber/gray for plain on/off bulbs. A quick press toggles on/off. The dial adds:
- Hold - applies your configured "Lux Default" colour-temperature scene (Bright/Read/Relax, or a custom pick from a colour-temperature wheel) and turns the light on.
- Double-press - cycles to the next room or light, alphabetically.
- Triple-press - cycles to the previous one.
Light Color (Stream Deck+ dial) - the same rotate-for-brightness and press gestures as Light Toggle's dial, plus Color, Gradient and white balance modes on its touchscreen: tap a horizontal strip to pick a flat colour, a single-hue auto-gradient on lightstrips (vivid to pastel across every segment), or a warm/cool white balance for tunable-white bulbs. The marker always reflects the light's real current colour, not just your last tap. A "Touch Mode" setting in the Property Inspector offers a second mode, Touch, then rotate for color: touching the screen arms a short window during which rotating the dial picks that colour or warmth instead of adjusting brightness, live on the touchscreen - it reverts to adjusting brightness automatically once you pause turning it.
Hue Sync (Keypad key) - toggles your Hue Play HDMI Sync Box's sync effect on or off. Auto-discovery finds it on your local network via mDNS, or enter its IP address manually; pairing is the same press-and-hold-the-button flow as the Bridge.
How it talks to your devices
- Bridge: one-time pairing via the physical link button, or auto-discovery via Philips' own N-UPnP endpoint. Multiple bridges can be connected at once; rooms and lights are looked up by name across all of them.
- Real-time updates: the Bridge exposes a Server-Sent Events stream that pushes state changes (on/off, brightness, colour, colour temperature) the instant they happen - Light Toggle and Light Color both use it, so a change made elsewhere (the Hue app, a physical switch, another key) shows up within moments instead of waiting on a fixed poll interval.
- Sync Box: a completely separate local API and pairing flow from the Bridge - press-and-hold its own physical button to register, then a bearer token authenticates every request afterward.
Requirements
- A Hue Bridge on your local network, paired via its physical link button.
- Stream Deck+ hardware for the two dial actions (Light Toggle's dial and Light Color); Light Toggle's Keypad key and Hue Sync work on any Stream Deck.
- A Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, additionally, for the Hue Sync action.
New Features: Scenes and Scene Browser
Two new actions for Hue Scenes: Hue Scene (a key that toggles one scene on or off) and Hue Scene Browser (a dial you rotate to browse every scene and press to activate it).
Turning a scene off now restores your room's previous lighting instead of just switching everything off.
Hue Scene Browser gained a Room selector — double-press the dial to cycle to the next room, triple-press for the previous one.
Hue Scene (the key) now matches the dial's design: a "Hue Scene" header, a Room dropdown in settings, double-tap to cycle scenes, and hold to cycle rooms.
Reliability
Fixed real "API Error" messages some users were seeing — caused by many keys/dials all reacting to the same change at once and overloading the bridge. Requests are now shared/deduplicated instead of firing redundant copies.
Fixed inconsistent brightness steps on the Light Color and Light Toggle dials — a "5%" nudge could sometimes land as 4% or 6%; it now moves by exactly the amount you set every time.
Light Color dial
Added a "Touch, then rotate for color" mode — tap the touchscreen to arm a few-second window where rotating adjusts color/warmth instead of brightness.
Added a third mode combining both: tap to pick a color, then immediately rotate to fine-tune it.
Fixed a bug where just touching the screen (without rotating) could still change the light's color when it shouldn't have.
