Lunch Roulette

Lunch Roulette solves the daily "where should we eat?" problem. Spin to get a random restaurant recommendation near you from Google Maps, powered by real ratings and proximity. Not feeling it? Skip. Already been there? Blacklist it. The widget remembers your history so it never repeats suggestions.

How It Works The widget uses Google Maps Platform to search for restaurants near a location you set. It loads the Maps JavaScript API with the Places library, uses Geocoding to turn your saved address into a search center, and picks from nearby restaurant results. Tap to mark a place as visited (history) or excluded (blacklist). Tap the restaurant name to open it in Google Maps in your browser.

Getting Started

Create or sign in to a Google Cloud account at https://cloud.google.com/free

In your Google Cloud project, enable Maps JavaScript API, Places API, and Geocoding API

Create an API key for the widget

Restrict the key under API restrictions to Maps JavaScript API, Places API, and Geocoding API

Open Lunch Roulette settings in iCUE

Enter the API key in Google API Key

Enter a center point in Default Address, such as your office, campus, or downtown area

Notes

Google Maps Platform may require billing to be enabled in your Google Cloud project.

The widget's Get Key button opens the same Google Cloud signup page in your system browser.

The cuisine box and radius slider are adjusted inside the widget after setup.
